      General Appearance:: A solidly built dog, short coupled and active, with a good square head, deep chest and ribs - broad, strong and muscular in loins and hindquarters.

      Character:: Friendly, good tempered and agile, with an excellent nose - particularly for food, soft mouth, loves water. With love and gentle training, they can become an adaptable and dependable "follow you anywhere" friend. They're renowned for their temperament, being "well balanced", intelligent and with a strong will to please everybody. They have a gentle, friendly nature and are good with children.

      Head:
Черепная часть:
Череп: широкий, чистых линий, без мясистых щёк. Переход ото лба к морде выраженный.
Лицевая часть:
Nose: wide, nostrils well developed.
Морда: мощная не заострённая.
Mouth:Jaws and teeth strong with a perfect, regular and complete scissor bite, i.e. upper teeth closely overlapping lower teeth and set square to the jaws.
Eyes: Medium size, expressing intelligence and good temper, brown or hazel.
Ears: Not large or heavy, hanging close to head and set rather far back.

      Neck: чистых линий, сильная, мощная, хорошо расположена на плечах.

      Корпус:
Спина: ровная линия верха.
Поясница: широкая, короткая и крепкая.
Грудь: хорошей глубины и длины, с хорошо сводистыми рёбрами.

      Tail: Distinctive feature, very thick towards base, gradually tapering towards tip, medium length, free from feathering but clothed thickly all round with short, thick, dense coat, thus giving 'rounded' appearance described as 'Otter' tail. May be carried gaily but should not curl over back.

      Передние конечности: передние конечности прямые, с крепким костяком.

      Плечо: длинное, косое.

      Задние конечности: Задние конечности хорошо развитые, круп к хвосту не наклонный.
Коленные суставы: с хорошими углами.
Скакательные суставы: низко расположенные. Коровий постав крайне нежелателен.

      Feet: Round, compact, well arched toes and well developed pads.

      Gait/Movement: Free, covering adequate ground, straight and true in front and rear.

      Coat: Distinctive feature, short, dense without wave or feathering, giving fairly hard feel to the touch. Weather resistant undercoat.
Colour:: Black, yellow or liver / chocolate. The yellows can range from pale cream to red fox. Some have a small white patch / star on the chest.

      Size:Ideal height at withers: Dogs 56 - 57 cms (22" - 22.5"). Bitches 55-56 cms (21.5" - 22").

      Faults: Any departure from the foregoing points should be considered a fault and the seriousness with which the fault should be regarded should be in exact proportions to its degree.

      Note:Male animals should have two apparently normal testicles fully descended into the scrotum.
